I am an interdisciplinary artist who works primarily as a filmmaker, theatre practitioner, producer, and writer. My practice is based around the belief that art can be used as a transformative tool – for healing, for growth, and for change. As such, I'm invested in engaging art to deepen connections to my inner self, my local community, and the world at large.
I love using juxtaposition in my work and am particularly adept at finding instances of strength to cut through vulnerability, profundity in the simplest of stories, and social stewardship via use of what is deeply personal. My artistic work is often characterized by many of the same qualities that define my personality: sensitive, tender, and empathetic. From the time I began organizing benefit cabarets and staging anti-war readings for my fellow theatre majors during my undergraduate studies at California Lutheran University (BA, 2002), I have dedicated my talents to providing opportunities to empower and advocate for the systemically exploited and excluded. I tackle difficult themes with delicate precision, and work to provide a safe place for other actors, artists, and crew members to explore new worlds, make mistakes, and be open and vulnerable themselves.
I am the founding creative director forThe Fools Collaborative, a collective of visual and performance artists in the Fresno area who are dedicated to bringing awareness and funds to an assortment of community, charity, and social justice-orientated causes. Under my leadership, The Fools have raised thousands of dollars for multiple California-based organizations our years in operation. However, I am most proud of the fellowship and communal opportunities the group has offered to an ever-growing number of local artists and atypical theatre audiences.
Having recently earned my MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College in Port Townsend, WA (2020), my life experiences and educational maturation continue to reshape and refocus my creative perspective and sharpen my work. While the social implications of my creative projects have always been at the forefront of my process, I aim to evolve past a self-centric place of advocacy work (ie: What can I offer?) to one where I can step back and allow the world around me a voice in revealing what is needed from my talents. At the core of everything I do, I always strive to "Be The Change" and continue evolving into a better person than I was the day before.
