      PORTFOLIO

I bring a strong track record of driving impactful messaging for mission-based organizations. My experience spans both commercial marketing and nonprofit advocacy, and I am passionate about engaging diverse audiences and building compelling narratives that inspire action. With the following examples, I've tried to showcase a variety of different mediums I've utilized to tell stories for brands.  I can also send samples of speeches, reports, presentations, and more. Email me if you're interested in further examples.

However you ended up here, thank you for your interest in my work.

FILM/VIDEO

Film is one of my favorite mediums to utilize as a storyteller. It is immediate, visceral, modern, and so very adaptable. I have made hundreds (probably thousands) of video assets in my career, ranging from long-form digital to commercials to social media reels.  Below are several samples of my work as a producer/director. Feel free to reach out if you are looking for a sample of something specific you don't see here.

United Way Fresno and Madera Counties Annual Report, 2024 (you see more of my work on the UWFMC Youtube channel).

This next long-form web video is the cultivation of a 20+ asset project I produced for the Fresno Clovis Convention and Visitors Bureau. In addition to scheduling shoot days with local businesses, I cast actors, supervised post-production, wrote the poem that is used as narration, and served as the voiceover artist.

PROMOTIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Samples of my marketing photography from StageWorks Fresno, Wienerschnitzel, and businesses that are members of the Fresno-Clovis Convention and Visitors Bureau. Again, if you are looking for samples of something specific you don't see here, please ask.

STRATEGIC MARKETING

I have made strategic marketing plans for departments as a whole, as well as simple and complex campaigns.  The following example is a pitch deck I made for my internal team after learning that the VP of Impact wanted our next conference to have the tagline "Equity is Actionable".

The following images demonstrate the execution of the above pitch, including Step and Repeats, swag items, slide shows, centerpieces and more.

DEVELOPMENT/FUNDRAISING ASSISTANCE

Donor relationships are a very important part of the United Way model. Since 1957, the Our Promise campaign has been the largest workplace giving initiative in California. The following image is from a 2023 campaign event. I led art direction for the step-and-repeat and poster, and encouraged staff to utilize small yard signs as photograph props.

ARTICLES/BLOGS/E-MAIL MARKETING/ STAFF SUPPORT

These are a few examples of different email marketing campaigns and articles I've written during my time at United Way Fresno and Madera Counties:

A statement from our organization regarding the January 6th insurrection.

An announcement about our CEO transition.

A media advisory after we won a "Nonprofit of the Year" award.

A feature in a local paper about our organization's work.

A guide to help co-workers and peers assist marketing while doing outreach events.

An sample of one of the days from our custom 21 Day Equity Challenge, developed specifically for our partners at the California State Community Center College District.

WEBSITE DESIGN/ MANAGEMENT

Website building is admittedly not my strong suit, but I can do it. I'm better at instructing others how to design what I have in mind, or just managing updates after someone else has done the initial design. In addition to re-hauling uwfm.org and upkeeping this personal website you're reading right now, I also created the site for The Fools Collaborative. I have experience working in Wordpress (.com and .org), Weebly, and Wix.  I also have multiple web designers/IT managers in my contacts who I can always call on if (or when) I get stuck.

ART DIRECTION

There are a few different designers who I work with reguarly; they're able to take my notes and turn them into clean, cohesive graphics that match the fury of ideas in my brain. Below are some examples of ads, flyers, and social media graphics that I've creatively concepted and managed through to completion. To be clear, none of the below is my design work. These assets are all designed by Miguel Gastelum.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Sometimes there isn't the budget or time to hire a "real" designer, so I end up needing to create assets myself. As I mentioned earlier, this is not my strongest skill nor my favorite thing to do, but I can create functional designs when a job requires. My friend Stacy recently opened a gelato shop. Below are some of the branded items I've created for her pro bono, as she gets the business off the ground.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

Through The Fools Collaborative, I work with a coalition of mid-Central Valley artists to produce creative events for the express purpose of bringing awareness to, and raising funds for, an assortment of community, environmental, and social justice causes. We also advocate for causes using creativity as a means of getting messaging across – to impacted peoples, the media and the general public. In 2021-2023 we were one of the organizations who helped lead a protest to protect our local "gayborhood" from a non-affirming church who was trying to buy up the anchoring building and a handful of surrounding businesses/parking lots. We led the movement through an artistic lens, using art and marketing strategy to tell the story of why it was so important to protect the Tower District. Members of the Save Tower Demonstration Committee booked musicians and dancers to perform at the weekly demonstrations; we supplied flags, hula hoops, and bubbles and other 'fun' things for protesters to utilize, as well as a sign-making area and kid's corner. We made social media graphics for followers to share and use as cover photos and profile pictures. We made videos and infographics to relay information. And we utilized humor whenever we possibly could.

Below are some samples of media and artistic strategies I implemented to help tell the story of why us "god-hating, radical extremists" were protesting a church in the first place.

• An interview I did with The Munro Review when we released a list of signatures of local residents, businesses, and organizations who were on our side of the movement.

• An article I wrote in the Fresno Flyer regarding the church potentially taking over the Tower District.

• A video I compiled and edited, made in rebuttal to one the church made about our movement. Here is another one.

• A social media carousel I made about protesters. Another one I conceptualized (and executed- it's me in the second picture) when an ode to Rush Limbaugh was put on the Tower Theatre marquee.

• An example of fundraising products I helped conceptualize with my creative partner, Miguel. Designed by artist David Cuevas and sold by Root General. Also, here is another product Miguel and I conceptualized, designed by Lyric Gianni and made by Jay Garza. (The Tower yard sign was made by local artist Graham Cracker.

• In this video, I am giving a eulogy for my friend (and fierce activist) Jeffery Robinson, who died during the middle of the Save Tower protest.

• A link to the Community Prayer Vigil we helped organize with various faith leaders and invite the media and neighborhood to attend.

I was involved with conceptualization of design for the graphics below, executed by Miguel Gastelum. As for images, I often was the one who took the picture and/or created the social media copy.
